The Right Pair of Shoes
Running shoes will be your most essential purchase. Comfort is of the utmost concern, so it is crucial that you know your foot type and sizing. Running shoes also need to be durable enough to stand the test of time and wear. What you don't need are shoes that are adorned with eye catching details and other gadgets.
Old shoes are definitely off the list as they will not be able to provide the comfort and support that new shoes can. Choose runners that provide the optimal support for your foot type. Those that are new to running, should pay special attention when looking for runners as their delicate feet could use the extra cushioning.
Getting Comfortable Running Clothes
You need to be able to move easy and feel comfortable during your run. Comfy running apparel is also key to feeling good on your run. New runners quite often make the mistake of wearing too much and becoming uncomfortable and overheated during their run. This is a good way to ruin your run experience.
What Not to Wear During a Run
Most people tend to go with cotton tee shirts when they start to run. Think again before wearing a cotton t-shirt to run in. They absorb all your sweat, becoming stiff and will eventually start chaffing. Sleeveless t-shirts also aren't always the best choice for runners to wear either as they may cause underarm chafing. If choosing sleeveless, test the waters first on a shorter run. If you are in danger of chaffing, you could always use vaseline and/or a great runner's product called "Body Glide". However, wearing light, specialized running garments is what you should do.
Running Clothes For Every Season
When you choose clothes for running, make sure that you have different ones for different seasons. While light airy materials will be good for summer, they are really not adequate during winter. Stopping running simply because the season has changed or because it is too hot, cold, or is rainy is not good. Choose your running clothes wisely.
During winter, try not to go with heavier garments. Wearing several layers of lighter running apparel is a better choice. That way, if you do feel hot, you can just take off the uppermost layer. Layer your running apparel with added protection such as a running jacket as the outer layer. While a heavy sweatshirt or a sweater may seem really good initially, you will soon overheat. A running jacket provides great protection against the wind and keeps you warm on the inside.
