Santorum Backs Down After Criticizing Obama on Education

Rick Santorum, who spent days attacking President Obama?s higher education policies and called him a ?snob, ? said on Sunday he may have mischaracterized the president?s position and that, with a new understanding of Obama?s statements, he agrees with him.

Speaking on Fox News Sunday, Santorum said that he had "read some columns" that characterized Obama as pushing exclusively for four-year colleges. But when faced with an excerpt from Obama's first speech to a joint session of Congress in which he advocated "one year or more of higher education or career training," Santorum backed down on his criticism.

"I've certainly read that,? he said of the columns. ?If it was in error, then I agree with the president that we should have options for people."

Santorum also dismissed a nonpartisan organization that evaluated his tax plan and found that it would increase the deficit. The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget recently released a report evaluating all of the GOP candidates' tax plans, but Santorum said that he doesn't "accept the premise of their argument."

"These are these organizations that dont believe that when you reduce taxes that you get more economic growth. I don't accept the economic models that they use," he said.
